Thanks to our commercial partners, Maipenrai Aquarium is able to ship tropical fish also to Australia.
In fact, we are able to fulfill the long and delicate mandatory quarantine process (no less than 10 days) before making a shipment of live tropical fish to Australia and then to issue all the documentation – DOF check – adequate to allow our customers to carry out the customs clearance process in complete safety and without any further delay.
Not all tropical fish species are permitted for import into Australia and we encourage our customers to consult the list below to find out which species are permitted for export.
One of the most famous unconventional bettas is definitely Betta Mahachaiensis, a species of betta that lives exclusively in Thailand in the Samut Sakhon area, near Bangkok.
This new species, first identified in 2012, takes its name from a sub-district of this area: Mahachai.
Although in nature it is found mainly in brackish waters with a salinity varying from 1 to 10%, Betta Mahachaiensis is able to live and return even in fresh water, provided that the breeding characteristics of the other Betta species coming from Thailand are respected in terms of setting up the aquarium (as regards the chemical parameters, a higher water hardness is required, making it compatible its breeding with most domestic waters).
The reproduction of Betta Mahachaiensis is very simple and is equal, from all points of view, to the reproduction of all other species of the splendens group.
Our company has been successfully breeding and reproducing Betta Mahachaiensis for many years and it is our main goal to keep the genetic characteristics of wild specimens intact. In fact, at our farms, you can find many specimens of this species bred in purity with a large availability of pairs already ready for reproduction.
Why choose a wild Betta over one of the very colorful and eye-catching selections?
Because a wild Betta is very easy to manage and very robust. If well maintained, then, it is able to give the viewer some very fascinating metallic colors, which have nothing to envy to the high selection variety.
Don’t miss the photo and video gallery below. Good vision
Although our company specializes in freshwater fish, we are also able to offer our customers a selection of marine fish, especially a selection of clownfish.
All of our clownfish come from captive breeding from one of the most important breeders in Thailand.
Choosing clownfish reproduced and bred in captivity, in addition to guaranteeing fish that are certainly more suitable for life in the aquarium, also allows you to safeguard the environment, an increasingly important issue, as it does not make fishing in nature necessary.
Our clownfish are perfectly quarantined and ready to be shipped all over the world and, thanks to the ever increasing knowledge and experience, we are able to regularly offer 4 different species with different sizes, always all available.
Below is a list of the clown fish species that you can find at our facility:

The business of tropical fish in Thailand: analysis of three different types of activities
After the great success of the last edition held from 22 to 23 October 2019 inside the Piacenza exhibition center (IT) and after waiting a year due to the problems caused by the pandemic that we all know, this year, from 16 to October 17, the new edition of Pets festival will take place, the one that, according to many, has now become the most important fair in the pet sector, awaited every year by companies and by tens of thousands of enthusiasts who flock more and more every year.
Within this fair, the aquarium section has a large space that has grown year after year, demonstrating the growing interest of the public towards aquariums and their inhabitants.
In the new setting of Cremona (IT) which this year will host the new edition of PETS FESTIVALl (www.petsfestival.eu), this year we will participate directly from Thailand with a video conference entitled ”The business of tropical fish in Thailand: analysis of three different types of activities“, where we will discuss and analyze the different dynamics that characterize the tropical fish market in this Southeast Asian nation.
African cichlids are among the most common fish, widespread and appreciated by aquarium owners.
The reason is very simple: in addition to the beauty of their livery, they are very simple to maintain and do not require particular attention to water parameters (they naturally live in hard water) and are not very sensitive to sudden changes in parameters (this obviously does not mean that ordinary aquarium maintenance can be neglected).
Last but not least, the ease of their reproduction has certainly contributed to the spread of African cichlids among enthusiasts all over the world. African cichlids obviously originate from Africa and there are about 1000 species of them.
Although widespread throughout the African continent, they are normally divided by the main lakes of origin (Malawi, Tanganyika, Victoria) with the exception of those species that come from Madagascar belonging mainly to the genus Paratilapia and some species that are mainly found in rivers.
As for almost all other fish in Thailand, even the African cichlids are regularly bred, trying as much as possible to maintain their ancestral characters, in such a way as to be able to offer our customers spread all over the world a very high quality with a affordable price and, last but not least, also the protection of the environment, not having to take fish in nature through fishing.
Below, you will find the African cichlids that are normally present in our availability.
Every Betta lover is always looking for new shapes and colors.
Maipenrai Aquarium, a company always attentive to all the news on the market thanks to its presence in the area and close collaboration with Thai breeders, is able to present the new varieties of Betta Metallic to its customers.
This new Betta color is born from the union of the most widespread and recent colors (Koi, Nemo, Candy, Galaxy, Avatar) with the “metallic” gene, a gene obtained from the isolation, selection and subsequent hybridization with other bettas of the ” splendens ” group (mainly imbellis and mahachaiensis).
This new type of Betta is simply beautiful and, in our opinion, is able to combine the flamboyance of the most modern colors with the elegance brought by the “metallic” gene capable of adding metallic reflections of copper tones and gilded, to these new Betta selections, now more and more appreciated by collectors and breeders from all over the world.
Some of the varieties currently available:
Nemo copper
Nemo gold
Candy copper
Candy gold
Galaxy copper
Galaxy gold
Tanchu copper
Koi copper
Avatar copper
Black star copper
Black star gold
All these varieties of Betta are available both in single specimens and in pairs.
These new “metallic” colors of Betta are in continuous selection and more and more colors will be available, such as, for example Galaxy Copper / Gold and Black Star Gold, colors born and fixed in conjunction with the union and selection of the gene “metallic”.
In our personal experience, the fry of these colors grow very quickly, showing their first metallic reflections already in the first two weeks of life, giving a lot of satisfaction to both amateur and professional breeders.
Below you will find some sample videos of these new colors already present in our farm
Maipenrai Aquarium is able to offer its customers very particular and precious varieties of lotus water lilies. Some of these varieties of lotus water lily are newly selected and represent an absolute novelty.
The lotus water lilies that you can find in this list are of the so-called “rustic” variety, suitable for practically all types of environments and climates.
A brief description of the plant:
They are typically rooting aquatic plants (annual or perennial).
They are free of oil cells and without the benzylisoquinoline alkaloid (secondary substance as it does not intervene in the basic metabolism of the plant).
Some species can be considered marsh as they can easily withstand temporary drops in the water level.
The average height of these plants depends on the depth of the reservoir and in any case they rarely exceed two meters in temperate climates, while in tropical environments they can even reach 7 – 8 m.
The biological form of the species of this family is mainly rooting hydrophytic; that is, they are perennial aquatic plants whose buds are found submerged or floating and have a root system that anchors them to the seabed.
Below is a list of the varieties currently available:
DAO PLADAP FAA
THAM MALAK SAA
SU MANEE
MYRA
PLUM CRAZY
MAHASOMBUT
MORADA BAY
BANGKOK PINK PANTER
The lotus water lilies will be shipped in the form of naked tubers in such a way as to guarantee maximum safety during transport and the fastest recovery once they arrive at their destination.

One of the most appreciated and certainly the most fascinating fish that can be kept in the aquarium is the freshwater stingray.
Most of the freshwater stingrays are native to South America (Amazon River and its tributaries) but there is also a typically Asian genus that is not very well known: the genus Hymantura, represented mainly by two species: uarnak and chaopraya.
These two species do not can rightly be marketed for reasons both of environmental protection and for the considerable size they reach.
As for the South American freshwater stingrays, they are largely farmed in Thailand, in fact Thailand is one of the main countries in the world that is able to offer almost all species of freshwater stingrays for export.
Maipenrai Aquarium is able to offer a wide selection of freshwater stingrays which can be chosen directly in our farm by video upon request.
It is also possible to choose and purchase pairs.
Obviously, each specimen has all the health certificates and CITES documentation (remember that all the fish belonging to the Potamotrygonydae family are in Appendix III source C in the Washington convention).

Many of these Bettas are extremely rare in the aquarium market, but thanks to our continuous efforts and contacts with the best greenhouses throughout Southeast Asia, we are now able to regularly offer our customers Betta specimens from Malaysia and Indonesia.
Many of these uncommon species are not nest builders, but are oral incubators and this reproductive practice can make their maintenance even more interesting.
In many cases we are also able to provide precise geographical indications of the place of origin to allow customers a precise indication of the species and any geographical variant.
Below is a list of the species we have selected for export of these rare tropical fish. The species you will find below are always available and ready for export, but always and in any case in a limited number of specimens, due to the unconventional nature of these Betta groups.
