Some important information about this wonderful fish also called Brunei beauty:
Distribution
Betta marcostoma is endemic to Borneo where it’s known only from Brunei Darussalam and the northern tip of the Malaysian state of Sarawak.
Habitat
The water is moderate fast-flowing and clear although it seems to be slightly brown in colour, likely the artefact of dissolved humic acids and other chemicals released by decaying organic material like catappa leaves and other leaves and wood from the forest.
Brunei beauty has been collected from still, shady pools at the top of rainforest waterfalls in both Brunei and Sarawak. Substrates appear to be composed of graveland rocks of varying sizes
Water parameters
Temperature: 22 – 28 °C
pH: 4.0 – 6.0
Hardness: 0 – 90 ppm
Diet
Likely to prey on insects and other small invertebrates in nature.
Captive fish will accept dried food once they’re recognised as edible, but should be offered plenty of small live or frozen foods such as Daphnia or bloodworm regularly to ensure development of optimal colour and condition.
