One of the most famous unconventional bettas is definitely Betta Mahachaiensis, a species of betta that lives exclusively in Thailand in the Samut Sakhon area, near Bangkok.
This new species, first identified in 2012, takes its name from a sub-district of this area: Mahachai.
Although in nature it is found mainly in brackish waters with a salinity varying from 1 to 10%, Betta Mahachaiensis is able to live and return even in fresh water, provided that the breeding characteristics of the other Betta species coming from Thailand are respected in terms of setting up the aquarium (as regards the chemical parameters, a higher water hardness is required, making it compatible its breeding with most domestic waters).
The reproduction of Betta Mahachaiensis is very simple and is equal, from all points of view, to the reproduction of all other species of the splendens group.
Our company has been successfully breeding and reproducing Betta Mahachaiensis for many years and it is our main goal to keep the genetic characteristics of wild specimens intact. In fact, at our farms, you can find many specimens of this species bred in purity with a large availability of pairs already ready for reproduction.
Why choose a wild Betta over one of the very colorful and eye-catching selections?
Because a wild Betta is very easy to manage and very robust. If well maintained, then, it is able to give the viewer some very fascinating metallic colors, which have nothing to envy to the high selection variety.
